With reference to newsletter received yesterday 16/09/06 regarding Flyover in Thorpe Astley I suggest that the residents of Thorpe Astley sign a petition by each and every household. And give it to the council and The Highway agency and oppose the proposal before its gets underway. And involve media if possible and also question Barratts and Persimmons if they knew about this proposal before they started their new phase in Thorpe Astley off Murby Way. As they may be trying hard to get houses built and sold as soon as possible and then its not their responsibilty anymore what happens in the area?
I request the person responsible for Thorpe Astley community to start this petition as as practicable and make all aware of the situation.
Thanks

Sorry but the developers are doing nothing wrong here. Unless they delibrately mislead you (i.e. you ask "is the M1 likely to be widened in the next ten years?" they reply "absolutely not") then they have no obligation to make you aware of the proposal.

The "newsletter" that has been posted through many letter boxes outlines a proposal that may be made at some point at the future - the highways agency have not released any plan similar to it as of yet. To be honest my own opinion is that it is scaremongering, I can't envisage there being enough space to build the interchange leading to any flyover in the land available.

Mind you it's not like I don't get these things wrong!

Mad I do not think that there is any scaremongering going on regarding the potential of a flyover near Thorpe Astley! There are currently potential 'plans' to build the flyover near Thorpe Astley in existence. The Highways Agency currently have four options with regard to the flyover, one of which is very close to Thorpe Astley. Perhaps you would like to contact the Highways Agency on 08457 504030 Mr Turton and ask him to email the plans to you so that you can have a look for yourself.

If we are to STOP this flyover from being built on our door step so to speak we will need to all pull together to try to persuade the Agency to build it elsewhere.

Where did you see these alternative plans? My understanding is that the only published plans showed the flyover north of LFE services. I appreciate that these plans are not finalised and LFE residents strongly oppose it but I didn't appreciate alternative plans were published anywhere.

you will find the plans on www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/10160.aspx. option 2 is the one that would affect Thorpe Astley the greatest if chosen. I understand that the options are at the consultation stage at the moment and the Highways Agency are going to announce a consultation meeting in due course. I will post the date of the meeting on this board when I find out about it.

on the docs posted yesterday the slip road looked about 1 mile wide. Slight exaggeration me thinks.

I think this information clears up some info regarding a unoffical "proposed" flyover in TA.

I received it by email, so i guess its quite recent news.

If the proposals don't affect TA then take a look at option 3. This certainly has an impact on TA. Or are these old options that i should ignore and look at the top pdfs?

to be honest, all the options affect TA to varying degrees. It's quite diffucult to see from plans. Hopefully the Highways Agency will have some models made up during the consulation period. I think its all bad for Thorpe Astley and the environment.

The noise from the motorway is bad enough now - heavens knows what it will be like with a flyover - I for one will get out asap but how much will it affect propery prices?

M1 / M69 Public Consultation Update

Due to the time needed to consider the number of responses and constructive suggestions received from the public, the public consultation for the M69 link roads on the M1 at Junction 21 is likely to be held in early 2007, following completion of further studies of a number of potential options for the project.

Local residents will be able to view all the options that are being considered by the Highways Agency and explanations of each of the options will be provided. The Highways Agency will also show the option it feels best addresses the issues raised by the public and key stakeholders in the earlier stages of consultation. This will be displayed as the Agency's favoured option based on current information and comment.

The dates for the public consultation will be announced as soon as the Highways Agency has completed all of the necessary studies.

The Highways Agency is concerned about the distress caused to residents by the distribution of unofficial sketches and proposals of the scheme and would like to assure residents that no decisions will be made until after the public consultation in 2007 and after all comments and suggestions have been carefully considered.

The dates and venues for the consultation will be displayed on the Highways Agency’s internet site, local parish council newsletters and advertised via a poster campaign in the local areas. Members of the public are encouraged to keep up to date with the progress of this project by subscribing for email alerts at: www.highways.gov.uk/M1eastmidlands
